Thank You, Alameda!
Published by Rob Siltanen June 1st, 2008 in Measure H, School News/EventsThis campaign for Measure H has been quite a journey, politically and personally.
Apart from the continuing political education I’ve enjoyed over the past few months, along the way I’ve been fortunate to get to know many more good people in Alameda than I knew back when the campaign launched on a hope-filled Saturday morning in March. One of my favorite memories of this spring is the day I spent an hour in a trash can on Park Street and “hung out” with four neat 5th graders from Lum, one of whom kept asking cars to “honk if you care.” Over the course of this campaign, among other things, I’ve also exchanged hundreds/thousands of emails with many smart, caring (often funny) people from all over Alameda. All of this has strengthened my commitment to our fine town.
Whatever the voters say on Tuesday about Measure H, this whole enterprise has been quite heartening. People of all ages and backgrounds from all over Alameda have contributed thousands of volunteer hours to the effort to save our schools and help our community. If you “walked the walk” by talking to a neighbor or making a phone call or sending an email or knocking on a door or writing a letter to the editor or doing anything else for Measure H, thank you.
On Tuesday please go vote and please vote yes on Measure H!
