“Miracle” at Paden School
0 Comments Published by Rob Siltanen January 13th, 2009 in School News/EventsAs Michele Ellson reported in July, in 2008 the Paden School PTA completed a multi-year fundraising effort to purchase a new, cool, safe play structure to replace the very old, somewhat dangerous structure that had been in place since the 1990’s.
In the end, the Paden PTA decided to save thousands of dollars in installation costs [...]

0 Comments Published by Rob Siltanen November 1st, 2008 in School Finance, School News/EventsWell, last week marked the end of the “first quarter” of the academic year for public schools in Alameda. Although we’re less than 25% through the “calendar days” of the 2008-2009 school year, we’ve now passed the 25% mark of “school days.”
As we’ve all been working hard doing what we do in the classroom, the [...]

Involve McPhetridge in Superintendent Search!
1 Comment Published by Rob Siltanen July 17th, 2008 in School News/EventsWith so many changes, challenges and opportunities confronting AUSD, it can be difficult to keep up and to think carefully about “what’s next.”
For my money, above all else, the selection of our next Superintendent will be the single most important decision in shaping all that is to come.
I realize the School Board has not yet [...]

Since I think the many answers to the question “why pay for school sports?” are obvious (or at least can be saved for another occasion), I’ll skip right past “why” to a story [...]
In my last post here (”What’s Next, What’s Next?“), I raised some questions that should be part of the discussion of what’s next for AUSD. Let me now add a really big new question:
Who should be the next Superintendent of AUSD?
Although there is yet to be any “official word” from her office, the AUSD rumor [...]
